Running a Smooth Practice

Written by Practice Management Group | Jul 17, 2026

You may have noticed there hasn't been a new blog post for the past few weeks. So...where have I been?

Vacation.

Not just a long weekend or a quick getaway, either. I've been spending more than a month camping throughout Canada, enjoying some of the most beautiful scenery North America has to offer. Before crossing the border, I spent two weeks exploring Michigan's Upper Peninsula—a spectacular destination with rugged shorelines, waterfalls, and forests that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an unforgettable road trip.

And the travel doesn't stop there.

I'll be home for just a couple of weeks before heading to Sturgis for ten days. After another brief stop at home, I'll be off to Europe for nearly three weeks. I'll return for only two days before packing my bags again—this time for a week in Napa Valley with a group of fellow wine enthusiasts.

By the time September rolls around, I'll have spent nearly three months traveling between May and September.

So what happens to my financial planning practice while I'm away?

Absolutely nothing.

Clients continue to receive exceptional service. Requests are processed without delay. New assets continue to come in. Our marketing team keeps generating qualified leads. New client meetings are held, and the business continues moving forward exactly as it should.

In other words, we don't miss a beat.

That doesn't happen by accident. It happens because we've intentionally built a business—not just a job. We've developed systems, documented processes, and assembled a team that can operate efficiently without relying on me to be involved in every decision or every client interaction.

That's what a truly scalable practice looks like.

Too many advisors unknowingly build businesses that are completely dependent on them. If they aren't in the office, everything slows down. Revenue stalls. Decisions get delayed. Clients wait. Vacations become stressful because they're constantly checking emails and taking phone calls.

That's not freedom. It's simply owning a job with a different title.

The good news is that it doesn't have to stay that way. Inside our group, we teach advisors how to build systems, create leverage, develop strong teams, and design practices that continue to grow whether they're sitting at their desk or sitting beside a campfire hundreds of miles away.

The ultimate goal isn't just building a successful practice—it's building one that gives you the freedom to actually enjoy the life you've worked so hard to create.
